Ingredients

  • 300g round rice
  • 1l of unsalted vegetable broth
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 150g red pepper
  • 150g carrot
  • 120g of fresh or frozen peas
  • 120g diced cooked ham
  • 120g of crushed natural tomato
  • Extra virgin olive oil

How to make peasant style rice with vegetables for babies

  1. Start by preparing the vegetables. Wash the pepper and carrot and cut them into cubes. If you are going to use frozen peas, take them out of the freezer. Peel and mince the garlic.
  2. In a wide casserole add a drizzle of olive oil and when it is hot add the garlic, pepper and carrot. Cook for 6-7 minutes, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t burn.
  3. Add the diced cooked ham, stir well and let it fry with the vegetables for another 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the peas and the crushed tomato and continue cooking for 10 more minutes over medium-low heat. It is important to stir from time to time to avoid burning.
  5. Add the rice and cook it with the rest of the ingredients for a couple of minutes.
  6. Cover the rice with the broth and cook for 18-20 minutes from the moment it starts to boil.
  7. When all the liquid evaporates, it is ready. Serve it on a plate and when it is warm your baby can eat it.

Tricks and tips

  • Adapt the recipe with the vegetables you have at home: zucchini, leeks, asparagus, broccoli, etc. You can also use chicken or turkey bits instead of cooked ham.
  • You can do it with brown rice, but it will have to cook for about 30 minutes and you will need a little more broth.
  • It is a dish that the whole family can enjoy, just sprinkle a little salt on the adult plates when you go to eat it.
