Homemade baby cookies

Ingredients

  • 150g of wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 50g butter
  • 40g panela or unrefined cane sugar (optional)

How to make blw baby cookies

  1. Take the butter out of the fridge a little early to soften it, or heat it up for 15 seconds in the microwave.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  3. If you are using the sugar in a bowl, mix it into the butter with a spoon. Then add the egg and mix again. Finally add the flour and stir again until you have a homogeneous mixture.
  4. When you can no longer mix with the spoon, use your hand and form the dough into a ball.
  5. Separate the ball in two, then each part again in 2, and so on until you have 16 small pieces of cookie dough.
  6. Roll each ball of dough by hand to form a “churro”. Then flatten it out a bit (not too much, to keep the inside soft) and round the edges so there are no peaks. They should be about the size of your index finger, and the elongated shape is so your baby can easily grasp them.
  7. Put the cookies on a tray lined with baking paper. Put them in the oven for about 20 minutes at 180°C until golden brown.
  8. They’re ready! Wait until they are cold and you can give them to the baby. They last a week with no problems.

Tricks and tips

  • Your baby should always eat cookies  under supervision  and sit upright while eating them.
  • You can offer these cookies to your baby from 10 months, if he is already used to chewing some pieces.
  • You can also make the recipe with whole wheat flour or oat flour.
  • If you add the sugar, you must give these cookies as an exceptional treat, he cannot eat them all the time, every day.
  • These cookies are harder than the ones you can buy at the supermarket. This allows the baby to catch them without breaking, sucking and chewing them. Once in the mouth and moistened with their saliva, the cookies become softer so that the baby can eat them easily.
