Oatmeal and apple porridge

Ingredients

  • 50g oat flakes (half a cup)
  • An Apple
  • A stick of cinnamon stick
  • 210ml of milk (breast or formula)

How to make oatmeal porridge with apple

  1. Wash and peel the apple, cut it in half and remove the core with the seeds. Cut each half into 6 pieces.
  2. Put the apple and cinnamon stick in a saucepan and cover with water. Cook the apple over high heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. When it is cooked, remove the water and the cinnamon stick. In the same saucepan, mash the apple with a fork.
  4. Now add the milk to the saucepan, stir well and heat again. When the milk is warm, add the oats and cook over low heat for about 1 minute, stirring with a wooden spoon so that lumps do not form.
  5. As soon as the mixture thickens, remove it from the heat. If your baby is small you can crush the porridge in the blender.
  6. Serve the porridge in a bowl and wait until it is warm. Now you can give it to your baby!

Tricks and tips

  • Different types of apple give different flavors to these porridge. If you want them sweeter you can use queen, golden or pink lady apples, and to make them a little more sour you can use granny smith apples.
  • If you want to increase the intensity of the flavor, you can sprinkle a little ground cinnamon over the porridge.
  • After 8 months, do not crush the porridge with the blender, it is good that your baby gets used to trying different textures and chewing a little as soon as possible.
  • For babies from one year they can be prepared with whole milk. You can also use water or orange juice instead of milk.
